Saturday's letters: Alberta's U.S. booze ban hurts local business
The premier announcing that the AGLC will no longer "buy" American alcoholic beverages is an empty gesture aimed at seizing on a trend. The ACLC acts as a tax-collection and policy-decision body, not a purchaser of alcohol. Alcohol is brought to Alberta by liquor-import agencies (some of them small local businesses) and purchased by local retailers (also local businesses). Read More

Friday's letters: Federal reversal on pipelines astounding
Truly astounding is the 180-degree about-face the Liberal/NDP government executed almost overnight after the U.S. election. Even though they had, for the last decade, pursued policies that blocked any sort of development, suddenly the country needs pipelines, control of the borders, control of the illegal drug trade, internal trade, et cetera. And they proclaimed this in front of the TV cameras completely straight-faced without so much as a wink or snigger. They are politicians, after all. Read More
