Is it better to save an income tax refund or pay down debt?
Q: I started a new job last fall after finishing university and ended up working a lot more overtime than I had anticipated. Filing taxes for the first time as a working professional, I wasn't sure what to expect, so I filed as soon as I had all my tax slips. I was stunned when the tax software indicated a refund of nearly $7,000. Thinking it was a mistake, I didn't make any plans for the money — until I saw a direct deposit from the government for the exact amount. After checking with the payroll department at work, I discovered they had deducted a lot more income tax than necessary for the three months I worked at the end of the year. Now, with this unexpected windfall, I'm unsure whether to save the money for emergencies or pay off debt. What can you advise? ~Carson Read More

Measles, once nearly eradicated, is making a dramatic comeback due to vaccine hesitancy. Recent outbreaks and deaths in the U.S. and Canada highlight a growing decline in vaccine confidence. Notably, a recent measles outbreak in Texas has drawn international attention. The situation is so dire that even Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — a well-known vaccine skeptic — now acknowledges the importance of parents consulting their clinician about childhood vaccines, including the MMR shot. Read More
